5 Top Tips For Getting Married At Dunnottar Castle

  1. You can host a wedding for up to 60 people

Did you know Dunnottar Castle can host up to 60 guests for a wedding ceremony?! Whether this be the stunning clifftop option, the drawing room or the old chapel within the castle, a wedding of 60 is absolutely achievable.

It should be noted that the Castle Drawing Room is the only indoor ceremony option, so if the weather takes a turn and decides to show you where the term ‘typical Scottish weather comes from’ you and your guests will be sheltered and can utilise the beautiful drawing room area to host your ceremony.

2. What are your options if any of your guests have mobility issues?

It is worth mentioning that if you have any guests will mobility issues the only access to the castle itself is by taking the staircase steps which lead to the castle. We have climbed those stairs many a time and estimate there is more than 250+. There is also no wheelchair access to the castle.

If you think some of your guests would struggle with the 250 steps then don’t worry, a clifftop ceremony provides a breath-taking backdrop of the whole Castle and the North Sea which everyone can access and enjoy.

3. You get your very own dedicated on the day Wedding Coordinator

One of the benefits of booking at Dunnottar Castle is you get your very own dedicated wedding coordinator there with you on the day to make sure everything runs smoothly! The wedding coordinator will be on hand before the wedding to check in with you and to answer and questions you may have! It’s great to have someone experienced with you that knows the Castle well and can provide you with solutions to any problems that may occur.

They will also make sure your day runs seamlessly and be on hand at any point, they will guide you and your guests to different areas of the castle and also ensure that bottle of something fizzy is poured and ready waiting for you all to toast to the new married couple!

4. Style your look correctly.

Dunnottar Castle is situated right on the cliff tops looking out over the North Sea which can be a bit windy and while this helps create moody, atmospheric photos, it is likely to be a bit chilly. Try incorporating layers into your bridal look so you can keep warm and look amazing. This could be a faux fur throw for you and your bridesmaids or some trendy scarves for the boys.

We have seen plenty of 6-inch heels at Dunnottar weddings which, of course, look great in your photos but we recommend you take a sensible pair of shoes with you too. Why not rock a pair of Hunter wellies or Dr Martens for your journey to the castle!

5.You are invited to view the Castle before your wedding

Once you book your wedding at Dunnottar you are invited for a complimentary visit to view the Castle before your wedding day to decide on a ceremony location. With the stunning Castle and landscape in all it’s glory you’ll be spoiled for choice!
